UX Writing Challenge
Day 1
UX Writing Challenge 1
Scenario: A traveler is in an airport waiting for the last leg of a flight home when their flight gets abruptly canceled due to bad weather.
Challenge: Write a message from the airline app notifying them of the cancellation and what they need to do next.
Headline: 45 characters
Body: 175 characters max
Button(s): 25 characters max
Final Draft:
Headline:
Sorry, your flight is cancelled due to bad weather.
Body:
You’ll need to re-book your flight. Please select the button below to view alternative flight times.
Button(s):
One Button: View Flights
Process:
Travelers will be annoyed about their flight cancellation. So the UX writer will have to make the alert message clear and avoid blaming the user.
The heading "Flight Status Has Been Changed" is neutral, clear, and avoids blaming anyone.
After alerting the user about the cancelled flight, the app allows the user to see alternate times. Realistically, the user would want to find the next available flight right away. And the app helps this by allowing the user to see the next available flights.
Day 2
UX Writing Challenge 2
Scenario: A user is a working parent, and a big sports fan, in the midst of their favorite sports season who can no longer attend games.
Challenge: Write a promotional screen for an app that lets a user choose teams, sends game reminders, real-time score updates and highlight videos.
Headline: 40 characters max
Body: 175 characters max
Button(s): 25 characters max
Final Draft:
Headline:
Never miss your favorite games again.
Body:
Choose your favorite teams, receive game reminders,
real-time score updates, and highlight videos to watch later.
Button:
Stay Updated Here
Process:
The heading, "Never miss your favorite games again" emphasizes the app understands the user wants to see their favorite games right away.
Then, the promotional screen shows users will receive the game's live scores, highlight reels, and game reminders.
These alerts are the immediate benefits to the user, which encourages the user to click on the app.
Day 3
UX Writing Challenge 3
Scenario: The user entered the wrong email address to sign in to their account.
Challenge: Tell the user to enter the right email.
Error Message: 40 characters max
Final Draft:
Hm, are you sure that’s the right email?
Process:
You'll want to let the user know they're doing something wrong. But you don't want to be so direct about it. Rather, it's best to point it out subtlety.
